Make Doing Business Easier By Automating

............ I recommend ... books, people (including their email newsletters) and products, AND web site links

"I not only use all the brains I have , but all that I can borrow." Woodrow Wilson, former U.S. President

We are in the education business.

I love to learn. It's my passion. So I'm always reading new books, taking classes, searching the web, attending networking events and connecting with inspiring and interesting people. I gather information continually to keep YOU and me thinking and learning.

Every one of my clients comes back to this page over and over to check out what or who my latest "find" is and they subscribe to my newsletter, too.

I'm sure you'll agree that there is an abundance of information available for all areas of small business especially marketing.

Picture me as a funnel for these resources. I'll save you time, frustration and money.

My team of talented and successful professionals continually communicate with each other to share our first-hand experiences, knowledge, and opinions on what gets results.

One of the definitions of the word RESOURCE in the Oxford dictionary is "Practical ingenuity, skill in devising expedients."

It's us, isn't it? As small business owners and professionals, it describes us to a "T"!

I'll give you a whole new perspective. I want you to get results simply and easily. Marketing doesn't need to be difficult, expensive, and stressful.

To feed your appetite for learning and help you to move forward in your business ...

BOOKS I Recommend

Visiting bookstores is a favourite pastime of mine both off and on line. Browsing the new marketing and sales books - and finding business classics that I haven't yet read really gives me pleasure. New ideas. A different way to tackle an old problem. Reading stimulates my passion for marketing.

I'm a pragmatist so you'll see that all of these books offer a practical approach with a minimum of theory.

Remember to visit bookstores regularly and browse to find your own "marketing motivators". Go online and look at the books that do something to and for you. Send me an email with your new "finds".

This growing list of books answers the question that I'm frequently asked, "What are the best ones I have read?" It includes current "mind-expanding" approaches and classic works that should be in everyone's business library - new books and old ones that should always be remembered. I've also read and use every one of them - otherwise they don't get on this list!

These books will open your mind to building a successful business right from start-up or get you back on track if you've been de-railed.

"This ‘telephone' has too many shortcomings to be seriously considered as a means of communication. The device is inherently of no value to us." - Western Union internal memo, 1876

Oops! How many situations like this have you heard of or read about. We must never become rigid in our thinking or beliefs about what is possible.

So click on one of the following books to order it. Or visit your local bookstore or public library and let your mind be expanded by what you read.

"I'm an avid reader and have and do come here often to see what Trudy is reading and what's on her bookshelf. These books helped me to do my jobs more effectively. They are full of ideas and if Trudy says they're worth reading, they are." Pamela Pilon, former Executive Director, Beaches Business and Professionals Association, http://www.bbpa.com/

"The E-Myth Revisited. Why Most Small Businesses Don't Work and What to Do About It."
by Michael Gerber.

Gerber first published this in 1986 when the "E" meant entrepreneur. This book is at the core of our work with clients who want to work ON their business and NOT IN it. It's the classic that EVERY small business owner MUST READ.

"Rich Dad. Poor Dad"
by Robert Kiyosaki

Take what you learned in the E-Myth and expand it. Create an even greater understanding of how to have your business and your other investments work FOR you.

"Multiple Streams of Income. How to Generate a Lifetime of Unlimited Wealth."

by Robert G. Allen

Robert Allen's presentation of his Ten Streams of Income are the "how to" of Kiyosaki's book. Like Michael Gerber, he teaches that you must develop and maintain systems in order to ensure the steady flow of income to you and your businesses.

"Getting Everything You Can Out of All You've Got. 21 Ways You Can Out-Think, Out-Perform and Out-Earn the Competition."
by Jay Abraham

If you haven't heard Jay's name before in marketing circles, then you should know that the advice he has given to small and large organizations runs the gamut from IBM to Tony Robbins, and from Microsoft to thousands of professionals and entrepreneurs.

His ideas are simple, clear and "do-able". The results his clients get are dramatic. This book is the "how to" guide to multiplying your growth potential through marketing.

Always be marketing. That should be the mantra of all business owners. Your success depends on people finding you and understanding the value that you offer.

I am a marketer. And there's always a new take on an old idea to be found in printed books and NOW in e-books. These are books and authors whose material I always make some time to read.

Guerilla Marketing For Free

by Jay Conrad Levinson

Jay puts the word Guerilla before everything he writes. He's one of those who really uses branding the way it was meant. Anything with him as author or co-author is useful to us as small business owners. He really understand us and all of his books (hence Guerilla) are marketing done as low and no - cost.

Selling the Invisible
by Harry Beckwith

I refer and read from the second book in my workshops and tell everyone who has a service business of the first. They both will make you think and give you ways to increase your biz the way you want to with the clients you want.

Get Clients Now!TM

by C.J. Hayden

C.J. is a woman whose course we have taken and taught. The book can be used as a stand-alone especially for service businesses as it is written for them. It is very organized and systematic (that's why I like it!) beginning with How to Start, what's stopping you and what to do. My copy is highlighted and dog-eared as I use it for me and for others.

Unleashing the Idea Virus
by Seth Godin

Seth used to write for Wired magazine, and now mainly writes marketing books. He's a real iconoclast - thinks rules are made to be broken. This is one of his books.

Losing My Virginity
by Sir Richard Branson

Richard Branson is a true entrepreneur. He's even been knighted by the Queen of England. If you haven't heard of him yet, he's English and owns almost anything that has the word "Virgin" in it. He's known as being very flamboyant, involved in each of his endeavours, hands-on, AND he believes and uses other people, too. These two books are by him.

PEOPLE and PRODUCTS Recommended by Trudy

Would you like to automate your marketing?

Here are some people and products that I recommend in the area of implementing marketing including sales and public relations. Some I use myself. All are high quality. Some people have technical tools, some have ecourses or teleclasses, others have email newsletters and still others have books (an old technology but some of us know we are visual learners and love to hold books). They've been reviewed and used and measured by me and by others I know and trust.

With over 25 years in and around the technology industry, I understand "techies" and their tools AND I speak their language. Technology (which to me means books, software, technical systems, or email newsletters) CAN be simple and easy to use. You can "do-it-yourself" or get others to do it for you.

"Even though I've moved to Minneapolis from Toronto, Trudy and I stay in touch. We both seem to know of many of the same people and what they have to offer. So I ALWAYS look at Trudy's web site to see who she's got there that's new and different. My list has grown 3 times what it was by knowing Trudy and listening to teleclasses she recommends or buying the products she lists on her site." Elizabeth Harrington, Founder of TheNewPrimeTime, Founder Fabulous Women Network, http://www.elizabethharrington.com/

These people and products are organized by what they are known for and how I've used them. So follow along or go right to the skill you are looking for.

The ** beside their name means I get their newsletter and read it, too!

Email newsletters or Ezines

Alexandria Brown, Ezine Queen - ** Email newsletters or ezines are one of the quickest ways to build your prospect list with subscribers. Give them real value in your content and you'll earn the right to offer other products and services. Take her free teleclass to learn more then get her Home Study program.

Constant Contact ** This is an email service many people use. Check out their web site for a demo. They are always available for a call or email for help.

Copywriting

Lorrie Morgan-Ferrero ** Lorrie is a copywriter that has studied with the masters and continues to. She has a conference and a course so you can do it yourself.

Public Relations

Dan Janal Dan is founder of PR leads and a speaker, too. He knows what works.

Joan Stewart, Publicity Hound - ** Joan has a background in the media that gives her a real edge over some other PR consultants. Her site, her newsletter, and her products are chock full of simple, proven techniques to get you noticed.

Suzanne Falter-Barns - Suzanne offers many ways to "get known now" especially through your web site AND PR ideas.

Branding

Kim Castle - Kim and her partner Vito Montalvo believe that you must brand your business and that it is more than getting and using a logo. Branding is how you gat known for what you do.

Sales

Ari Galper ** - You don't like to cold call and neither do I. Ari can help sell anything by building a relationship - and you NEVER cold call.

Blogging

Andy Wibbels - His book on blogging is one of the best. I have it and it got me started.

General Marketing for Small Business

Tom Antion - An inveterate marketer of himself, I've learned a lot from him including blogging, writing a book and how best to use technology for your web site.

Andrea J. Lee - Andrea is very organized and has a different approach to marketing your business. She is also known for her consulting and was the assistant to Thomas Leonard at Coachville. She does it all from her home in Calgary, Alberta!

Robert Middleton **- Robert Middleton is a marketing consultant, coach and speaker with practical ideas for service professionals and all small businesses.

Perfect Customers ** The authors of this book, Attracting Perfect Customers, wrote the definitive book that marries business and spirituality. Their newsletter and courses are excellent. I carry this book everywhere and talk about it in every speech and course.

Michael J. Port - Michael really knows how to get more clients. His book tells all and his free Monday teleclasses are wonderful - and useful, too.

Joe Vitale - of Hypnotic Marketing was in the movie called The Secret. He is a really good marketer and he does it all with his spiritual beliefs. He's not "woo woo". He gets lots of new and existing clients because of his great copywriting.

Teleclasses

Great Teleseminars.com - these are a good one to use for teleclasses.

Teleclass International.com - these are good for giving teleclasses, too.

Speaking

Tom Antion - Tom has, among other things, been speaking for years and is known at the National Speakers' Association (NSA) for this.

Speaker Net News -** Rebecca Morgan and Ken Braly, co-editors of the site and a great weekly newsletter are professional speakers. Although they bill their site as "Resource for the Professional Speaking Community", much of the information can be adapted to a solopreneur's business.

Accounting

Bonnie Nagayama. ** Bonnie is an accountant who knows Quickbooks both in the U.S and now Canada VERY WELL. She has a newsletter, teleclasses and a network of accountants and bookkeepers she can and does recommend.

Personal Development

Jack Canfield ** - Jack is one of the most grounded people I've ever known. His newsletter, books, audios and live training all send you away feeling better about yourself AND you learn something, too.

Mark Victor Hansen ** - Mark is the balloon to Jack Canfield's tether. That's why they worked so well together on the Chicken Soup series of books. He has a newsletter, books, audios and 3 live events, all of which I participated in at least once. He's the greatest marketer I've learned from.
